May Is Bike Month

Go to http://www.mayisbikemonth.com and register for the "May Is Bike Month" pledge and add FATRAC as your team. Last year riders in the Sacramento area rode over one million miles during May.  This is a powerful statement to all stakeholders during these troubled economic times. Make your voice heard by pledging (and then riding) as many miles as you can for the month of May. It is a great way to set a goal and then log your miles to see how you are doing.

MadCat Trailwork

MadCat and FATRAC trailwork on 4/26/09If you rode the Foresthill Divide Loop Trail on Sunday, April 26 then you ran across the 14 volunteers who were cutting back the poison oak and other bushes crowding the trail.  MadCat Bike brought goodies before the work and provided swag for after the event. We were able to work on almost all of the loop.  There is only a small section we did not touch.  Next time you are near the Town and Country Center, stop by and say thanks to Mike for supporting this important work.  Our next trail work is on May 30. Come out and help support the trails that you use.  I was inviting every rider that passed me on Sunday to come out next month and help.  The one rider (you know who you are) said he was going to buy a round of beers for the crew!  We are ready any time you are! Email me and let's work out the details.

Granite Bay Ride

Sunday at Granite Bay – We had a great ride.  Five of us started the ride from Cavitt Jr. High, including 2 riders from Reno who came down just for the FATRAC ride.  We heard from other riders that there was a major triathlon with bikes and runners on most of the Granite Bay trails, so we started off by heading south on the newer multiuse trail to Beal’s Point – that’s a good warm-up.

Try the Divide

On Saturday, April 18, over 20 riders came out for the monthly club ride on the Foresthill Divide Loop Trail.  They were treated to some wonderful weather, great trail conditions and a chance to ride a new Kona bicycle.  The Kona trailer contained 18 new bikes that FATRAC members were able to test out on the FDLT. Everyone has great things to say about the bikes as we hung around afterwards eating chilidogs and drinking soda.  Join us next month of the third Saturday of May for our annual "Spring Fling" where we will have a gourmet feast as a reward for the countless hours that FATRAC members have volunteered to keep our trails accessible.

Salmon Falls

On April 11, ten riders enjoyed the Darrington Trail, also known as Salmon Falls.  We split up at a number of forks and then rejoined on the other side so that everyone was able to ride at their ability level and speed. Bert and Jason were great ride leaders and everyone had a great day.  We turned around at the four corners and flew back as fast as our bikes could carry us. Join us on the third Saturday for our monthly Try the Divide on FDLT.

April Flowers

Nothing like a perfect weekend - great weather, awesome scenery, nice trails, good club rides on the FATRAC calendar!  On Saturday, April 4, Danette, Eric and new FATRACer Keith, with Cathy & Jim on the tandem, joined BONC (Bicyclists of Nevada County) on a sweet ride on the small, but perfect trail system at Hidden Falls.  Dr. Darwin Leek provided a fine feast of chili afterwards.  We heard a bit about the Nevada County Land Trust and the Placer Land Trust, as this was a nice, little fundraiser for the Nevada Co Land Trust.  Join your favorite land trust.  They do good things!  On Sunday, Cathy & Jim got the tandem out again to ride the infamous Darrington Trail (AKA Salmon Falls).  Bob Horowitz led the ride for FATRAC and did a great job despite a bad, awful cold.  Eric, Eric and Carl joined us, and Victor met us out at 4 corners.  The scenery was CLASSIC spring and Folsom Lake is waaaay up over what we saw on a FATRAC ride in January.  The bridge is GONE under the blue liquid.  Go to the FATRAC Facebook page.  Join and check out the photos!!!

Cronan Ranch Ride

On Saturday, March 28th, nine people got together to ride in a joint club ride led by Franke Terrazas of FATRAC and Rich Elmore of Cool Cycling Club at Cronan Ranch in Pilot Hill. We rode 24 miles including a few wide creek crossings. The partially completed South Fork Trail was explored with views of mining equipment along the way. Keep your eyes on the calendar for more Cronan Ranch rides because it is a treat you do not want to miss.

Try the Divide

Those of you who were afraid of the weather missed a great bike ride on Saturday. Almost 30 riders joined us for our monthly club ride on the Foresthill Divide Loop Trail. As you can see in the pictures, everyone was bundled up, but the rain held off for most of the ride. The intermediate riders did a quick loop and enjoyed the chili and chips before any rain hit the ground. The novice group took a little longer, but they also made the complete loop.  They got wet, but everyone was all smiles when they arrived back at the cars.  The advanced group must have done the loop, the connector and all the way to the confluence because they were still out

Annual Wine Ride

FATRAC is having its second annual wine ride starting from Sonoma Lake.  We'll carpool to Lake Sonoma's Liberty Glen campground on Friday evening, then descended into Dry Creek Valley below the lake early Saturday for a day of riding and wine tasting. We'll ride to the end of Dry Creek Valley on the less traveled Lambert Bridge Road and hit 6-7 wineries that look good for tasting on our way back. We'll stop for lunch at the Dry Creek general store / gourmet deli half way through the ride. Saturday evening we'll share dinner around a campfire while taking in the view of the rolling oak woodlands surrounding Lake Sonoma. Sunday morning, we'll depart early-mid morning for some mountain biking at Annadel State Park before returning home.If you are interested in this,  email mcdanielp@gmail.com with the weekends that you are free in April & May so that we can get it on the calendar.
